INTEGRATIVE MODALITIES

Traditional Psychotherapy

Making Notes

The idea of “traditional psychotherapy” means different things to different people, but is generally thought of as “talk therapy,” and focuses on the human mind and behavior. Traditional psychotherapy utilizes a variety of evidence-based techniques to help people with a wide range of mental and emotional challenges that occur in every day life. This includes coping with troubling thoughts, stress, trauma, medical illness or loss, depression, anxiety and much more. Because this is an enormous field, many separate branches of psychology have developed therapeutic interventions that focus on specific issues within the study of the mind, the brain and human behavior. Each of these subdivisions has a different perspective, but all have the goal of helping to eliminate or control troubling symptoms, while increasing mental health and well-being. When utilizing traditional psychotherapy, I focus on modalities that identify and work with individual strengths, help facilitate wanted changes and support positive cognition, such as: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and Brief Solution Focused Therapy (BSFT), to name a few. I incorporate these and a wide range of clinical tools and perspectives into my practice sessions, wherever appropriate and also offer complementary modalities, such as Heart-Centered Hypnotherapy and Healing Touch, which include all aspects of our being.

Healing Touch

What is Healing Touch?

Healing Touch is a relaxing, nurturing energy-based approach to healing that assists in balancing the mind and body. This complementary therapy is not a massage, but rather a gentle placement of hands on and above the body in a non-invasive manner. Healing Touch influences every cell of the body. Some benefits include stress reduction, decreased pain, strengthened immune system, hormone regulation, support during cancer care and enhanced care pre or post surgery. Healing Touch helps promote the release of toxins while encouraging the regeneration of healthy cells. Healing Touch is for anyone who wants to create optimal health and well-being. Healing Touch supports self-healing and encourages recovery, allowing clients to actively participate in their own healing process.

Why do you offer Healing Touch as part of your practice?

I offer Healing Touch as another path to healing because talk therapy can only take us so far. It’s a wonderful start, but I believe we have to address our whole being, all parts of us…our minds, our bodies and our spirit to heal on the deepest level. There’s a deep disconnect in our culture that teaches us to ignore the intelligence of emotions and our bodies, thus, we repress and/or suppress our feelings, physical symptoms and experiences, causing distressing emotions and experiences to become trapped or stuck in the body. In other words, the body takes the hit. It’s important to honor the body as part of our whole being and Healing Touch works on all levels simultaneously to integrate these parts.

The components of a Healing Touch session include a short talk therapy session, intention setting, assessment, which includes rating the level of physical, emotional, mental and/or spiritual distress, both pre and post session, the energetic healing component and follow up to document improvement for that session.

Heart-Centered Hypnotherapy

What is Heart-Centered Hypnotherapy?

Heart-Centered Hypnotherapy is an experiential process that utilizes mind-body-spirit practices, in combination with traditional hypnosis, humanistic, behavioral, and developmental psychology, in conjunction with NLP techniques, gestalt techniques and energy work. Hypnosis is a treatment intervention that involves inducing a client into a trance state, which is a natural and relaxed state that we encounter often in our everyday lives. For example, any time we are reading for pleasure or watching a movie, we are experiencing a trance state. This relaxed state allows direct access the source of distress, unlike traditional talk therapy, which must spend more getting around a client’s mental blockages to then determine the subconscious reasons for a client’s presenting issue. Heart-centered Hypnotherapy goes directly to the core reasons for issues, like anxiety or depression, and other concerns that disturb our relationships and happiness by accessing the subconscious mind. Since the subconscious mind is where we store everything that has ever happened to us in our lives, this is a much more efficient way to conduct therapy and allows for greater awareness and the ability to understand the cause of behaviors and make the changes that we wish for.
